This RFP seeks new methods for detecting and mitigating deceptive behaviors from AI models, such as when models knowingly give misleading or harmful advice to users. If this pilot uncovers signs of meaningful progress, it may unlock a significantly larger investment in this space. The goal of this program is to develop interpretability methods that (1) detect deceptive behaviors exhibited by LLMs and (2) steer their reasoning to eliminate these behaviors.

NSF-supported STRIDE Ventures is launching the AI Efficiency Challenge to connect innovators and large-scale operators to rapidly translate efficiency technologies into real-world AI systems. The challenge invites proposals that accelerate the commercial adoption of translation-ready solutions to dramatically improve the efficiency of at-scale AI/Machine Learning systems and data centers. The initiative aims to enhance capacity-building and competitiveness of U.S.-based AI companies by reducing the cost of training and inference, addressing near-term limitations on data center capacity, and accelerating the time to market of new models.
